Call for Papers

The Society of Insurance Research along with the editors of Risk Management & Insurance Review encourage S.I.R. members, and others, who are interested in publishing an article to forward their submissions to the editors of RMIR.

Authoring an article provides an excellent opportunity to gain personal recognition among your peers, enhance your personal credentials, and share the results of your efforts with others in the industry.

Author’s Guidelines

The basis of a paper may be research findings, but it is not required that a thesis be supported by actual research results.  Certainly, if the results warrant inclusion, and if the author is at liberty to share the results, they may be added.  Research techniques and the research results are not the only basis for a paper.  Cases, concepts for approaching business decisions and insurance practices and reviews may be put forward with equal acceptability.  All submissions should be both topical and readable.

Paper Content

Each paper should contain –
  • Background and references to previous papers, if pertinent
  • A clearly stated premise, major thought, or concept.
  • A discussion of the premises, major thought, or concept, including arguments, or research results.
  • A summary and conclusion
  • Practical applications for the information presented in the paper.
  • Paper length should be under 2,000 words
All manuscripts for publication must include an article abstract, the complete titles and affiliations of the authors and complete contact information – including e-mail address- for the corresponding author.  Each manuscript should be submitted as an electronic file, either on diskette or by e-mail attachment. in either MS Word, WordPerfect, AppleWorks, or another word-processing format compatible with Word.  All graphics must be provided in an eps format or other format fully compatible with PageMaker and all source data for charts and tables must be included.

Authors will be required to assign copyright in their paper to the American Risk and Insurance Association.  Copyright assignment is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless copyright has been assigned.  To assist authors, the RMIR editorial office will supply an appropriate copyright assignment form.

Upon receipt, each manuscript will undergo preliminary editorial review to determine basic suitability for consideration in one of the Review’s three sections – Feature Articles, Perspectives, or Educational Insights.  Manuscripts deemed suitable for consideration, as Feature Articles will be sent to one or more referees for anonymous peer review; manuscripts deemed suitable for consideration in the other two sections might be sent for anonymous peer review at the discretion of the editors.  The entire review process may take several, or more, weeks.

A $30 submission fee applies, which is waived for ARIA and SIR members.

All submissions should be sent to –

Ms. Mary A. Weiss, Ph.D. mweiss@temple.edu

S.I.R. Members should notify the S.I.R. Executive Director prior to submission of their papers.  He, in turn, will verify membership with the RMIR editor in order to waive the $30 submission fee. Call (317) 398-3684 or e-mail Ed Budd at sir.mail@comcast.net
